Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy has done well at the UK box office, beating Captain America: Brave New World and setting records in the process.
The fourth outing for Renée Zellweger's romantic heroine opened on Thursday, February 13 and made just under £12 million over its opening weekend.
Not only was that a better performance than the Marvel Cinematic Universe's latest – the UK is one of the few territories Captain America didn't open in first place – but it's also the biggest UK opening for a romantic comedy ever.

The previous record was held by 2004's Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason with just over £8 million, meaning Mad About the Boy also has the biggest UK opening in the Bridget Jones series.
Furthermore, this is also the biggest UK opening for production company Working Title, beating things like the Johnny English films, Love Actually, and Les Misérables.

Mad About the Boy didn't quite manage to scrape into Universal Pictures' best UK openings, settling for 11th place. However, that's still above Oppenheimer, Despicable Me 3 and Minions.

Although marketed as the final outing for Bridget, Zellweger has stated that this isn't necessarily the case.
"I just knew that I loved [Bridget], I knew she made me laugh, I knew she touched my heart, and I found her so charming and endearing," she said.
"Hopefully [author Helen Fielding] might spark to something and want to share something through the Bridget character again down the line. Who would say no?"
Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy is out in UK and Irish cinemas now, while it is available to stream via the service Peacock in the US.
