Kingsman 3 has been given a disappointing update by a studio boss.

The third entry in the franchise, currently titled Kingsman: The Blue Blood, had been slated to begin filming this year – though it appears it may be a while off yet.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Studios boss Steve Asbell confirmed: "There’s no plans on doing [Kingsman sequels or prequels] anytime soon."

The last main Kingsman movie came out in 2017, while prequel The King's Man was released in 2021.

Director Matthew Vaughn said a year ago at New York Comic Con that work would commence on the third movie in 2024 – though it appears that may no longer be the case.

"That was always what I thought I was committed to doing. It's the role that made my name, so I suppose, in a way, I just want it to be absolutely right if we do it again, and I want the story to do justice to the part that really changed my life."

He went on to express hope that the third movie is "a fitting ending", while admitting a desire to see Colin Firth return.

"We'll have to see, but we are planning to talk about it, actually, the next time we see one another, so who knows?" Egerton added. "Watch this space. [...] [Vaughn is] certainly not backing off the idea."

The actor also teased that he had pitched an "idea" to Vaughn for the threequel, though said that the director "has the wheels in motion on a big idea of his own".

"So who knows, you know? Who knows where it will land?" he further reflected.
