Maisie Williams does not regret starring in The New Mutants, despite the film receiving scathing reviews since its release in September 2020.
In a recent interview with GQ Style, the Game of Thrones star recalled her "extremely fulfilling" memories of the project, filming alongside Anya Taylor-Joy and Charlie Heaton, and dealing with the negative backlash they received.
"I can't remember what publication it was, but someone said it was the worst Marvel movie ever made," she laughed.
"I still feel kinda proud of that!"

It's not the first time she's taken criticism of the X-Men spin-off in her stride, either. When Forbes called the film a "nothing-burger", Williams responded by tweeting: "Sounds like a must see! Get your tickets now."

Williams also speculated that the double whammy of a pandemic release, and a Disney-Fox merger, contributed to the film's poor reception at the box office and amongst viewers. The movie was also tarred by rumours of creative differences between director Josh Boone and the studio.
The New Mutants had a rocky path from filming to reaching cinema screens, taking three years before it was finally released during the middle of the pandemic.

Boone would later explain that a streaming-first release wasn't possible for The New Mutants, due to contractual agreements. "With most movies, you sign contracts that guarantee a theatrical release, so it needs to open to ever go digital in the first place," he clarified.
Williams will next be seen in the upcoming series Pistol, which focuses on the rise of the Sex Pistols and will see her play Pamela Rooke.
