Sam Smith emerged victorious after scooping four major wins, including Best New Artist and Best Pop Vocal Album for In the Lonely Hour, while Pharrell Williams also fared well, winning three awards.
But it was the eye-catching red carpet fashion - including Madonna styled as a raunchy matador and Rihanna as a pink princess - which almost the stole the show last night. From the amazingly absurd to the plain bizarre, here's the star style which turned heads at the Grammys:
1. Madonna
Madonna opted for a bizarre matador-style black and pink lace bodice by Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy, teamed with fishnet tights, thigh-high leather boots and matching gloves. She also sported a Montera hat with dramatic black netting.
2. Rihanna
Rihanna looked swamped in a princess pink, tulle Giambattista Valli couture gown. She later admitted: "I saw the dress on the internet and I just fell in love with it." Perhaps here?

3. Joy Villa
We hadn't heard of Joy Villa until she stepped out in what looked like a floor-length orange traffic safety net at the Grammys. The singer also donned a matching orange headpiece and nude nipple tape, accessorising with a purple handbag.
4. Sia
Sia could barely see through her giant white blonde crimped wig which covered her eyes. She arrived with dancer Maddie Ziegler, the star of Sia's music videos for 'Chandelier' and 'Elastic Heart', who was attired in a matching monochrome outfit.
5. Bleona Qereti
Bleona Qereti - who previously dropped jaws when she wore a sheer fishnet dress over a pair of silver nipple tassels and thong at the AMAs last year, wore a shiny bronze metal breast plate complete with long black ruffled train.
6. Charli XCX
Charli XCX went for the Pink Panther look in a satin Moschino tuxedo with pink bow tie, pink faux fur shawl and sparkly pink cut-out stilettos.
7. Rita Ora
Rita Ora looked like the aftermath of a silver sequin explosion as she opted for a high-neck, floor-length Prada gown.
8. Kim Kardashian West
Kim Kardashian West's gold, bejewelled Jean Paul Gaultier gown drew comparisons to WWE veteran Ric Flair from some quarters of the internet.
