Sony has announced it won't be hosting a press conference at gamescom this year.

The firm usually hosts a briefing with new announcements the day before the public expo - which is set in Cologne, Germany between August 7 and 9 this year - begins.

The decision was made due to the way E3 and gamescom fall this year, and instead an "international media briefing" will be held by Sony during Paris Games Week on October 27.

"We're delighted to announce that we will be hosting an international media briefing at Paris Games Week on 27th October," read a statement to Videogamer.

"With the changes this year of E3 taking place a week later and gamescom taking place earlier, we feel that both PlayStation and the wider industry would benefit from a major news milestone later in the year, during the most important period for gaming.

"We are excited about our plans and look forward to sharing some exciting announcements. We will share more information closer to the time."

This will be the first time Sony has passed on hosting a conference during gamescom since its inception in 2008.

Last year's gamescom conference saw the likes of Until Dawn, Tearaway Unfolded and DayZ for PS4 announced.

Sony is still expected to host a press conference during E3, which takes place June 16-18.
