In addition to the announcement of the PS4 Slim and PS Pro last night, BioWare treated everyone to their first look at Mass Effect: Andromeda.

We've been dying to get a look at the game since its announcement at E3 last year. The trailer from 2015 was exciting but told us too little. Since then it's now been a torturous 15 months, but the wait is finally coming to an end.

The above video can be played back in 4K, but it bears reiterating that you won't see any benefit unless you own a 4K-capable screen.

Is it not everything you wanted it to be? *sounds of gentle weeping*

The gameplay clip is full of clues about the game's plot. The new team appears to be inside some kind of hyper-advanced hyperspace gate which presumably links to all the others on the 3D map that gets brought up. Has Mass Effect gone all Stargate on us?

BioWare has previously said that it wants to take the series in a new direction with Andromeda which is about exploration and the unknown.

What to Read Next

The central characters on offer in the video all look like they hail from the original galaxy in Mass Effect 1-3 (the Asari is a dead giveaway), but this probably just means they've found themselves stranded a long way from home.

We'll miss the Citadel and Commander Shepard, but a new galaxy means new discoveries, as well as the chance for the team at BioWare to reinvigorate its RPG action game. Call us excited.
