A new teaser trailer for Mass Effect Andromeda has been unveiled - and it has a somewhat surprising narrator.

Andromeda takes place after the first three Mass Effect games but, despite Commander Shepard's story ending in Mass Effect 3, the voice of Jennifer Hale's female Shepard narrates the trailer.

BioWare has confirmed on Twitter that the narration is just Commander Shepard officially signing off from the franchise.

The teaser was released to mark the annual 'N7 day' celebrations and starts with a series of live-action footage detailing human spaceflight over the years. Then we see a ship take off as Commander Shepard states that it's now our time to explore.

"We will say goodbye and you will look back one last time, and know that wherever you go, we will be with you," the voiceover states.

Back in August, BioWare senior development director Chris Wynn revealed that Andromeda's combat includes "new elements that make it more dynamic" but will have a "similar feel" to Mass Effect 3.

Meanwhile, it was announced that Mass Effect will be getting its own 4D interactive theme park ride at California's Great America in Santa Clara.
