Update: In response to the claims that the PS4 Slim is real, Eurogamer dispatched one of its team to investigate. Richard Leadbetter then returned with photos and video footage of the device. Moving things and working menus (two console staples as far as we're aware) suggest to us that this is a genuine model. Check it out.
Original article: A September reveal for Sony's PS4 Slim was rumoured - it was expected, even.
What we certainly didn't expect was the new console popping up for sale on Gumtree a whole month early, seemingly showing off the console box's front and back design alongside the description "brand new sealed newest one out not in stores yet".
Is it for real? Well, while we only have the box to go on on Gumtree, other photos have popped up online of the alleged console itself that look pretty legitimate.
There's no way of knowing for sure whether the Manchester seller's posting is entirely legit or just a very convincing mock-up right now, but it looks pretty enough - for a product that Sony hasn't officially announced yet, at least.
The ad describes the the console as a 'Sony Ps4 Slim Line NEW Not Even In Stores Yet', and was posted in the late hours of Saturday (August 20). The seller also says that it would make a 'Good Ideal Gift'.
What to Read Next
Um, yeah it would.
The rumour that the PS4 Slim reveal would be tied in with the Neo release was first sparked by a Wall Street Journal writer back in June.
In a tweet that links to an article titled 'Sony's Image-Sensor Business Hit by Slowing iPhone Sales', Takashi Mochizuki indicated that the PS4 Slim could arrive as soon as the Tokyo Game Show at the beginning of autumn.
But could this be yet another false alarm?
Images which purportedly showed designs for a PS4 Slim did the rounds last year, but these were quickly identified as fakes.
We're not sure, but maybe we should put our bid in, just in case...
