Stevie Wonder's 'Another Star' has been selected as the theme music for the BBC's coverage of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

The 1977 single reached number 29 in the charts and featured on Wonder's album Songs in the Key of Life from the previous year.

Wonder performed the track at the Grammy Awards at the beginning of the year, which saw a spike in sales of the song.

'Another Star' will first air as part of the World Cup coverage on Wednesday (June 11) during BBC One's preview show.

The song will then appear in the opening sequence for all of the corporation's World Cup programming.

It is believed to be the first time Wonder has allowed such use of his music.

Ian Finch, senior producer for BBC Sport, said: "This song perfectly captures the feel-good, carnival atmosphere we will bring to our viewers during the World Cup this summer.

"It is very rare for an artist of this stature to approve the use of their music in this way, so we are thrilled and honoured to have the opportunity."
