Fresh off the heels of the blockbuster Rocky spinoff Creed, director Ryan Coogler is turning to TV to tackle an important social issue.

Coogler is working with Short Term 12 screenwriter Destin Daniel Cretton and playwright Chinaka Hodge to examine the harsh realities faced by kids in the US foster care system.

Minors will draw on the personal experiences of all three creators to paint a vivid and sometimes painful picture of foster children over a one-year period, reports Deadline.

Cretton worked for a time in foster care before becoming a successful screenwriter, and playwright Hodge interacted first-hand with underprivileged children in the California Bay Area school system.

Coogler - who is expected to direct Minors - previously explored themes of social justice and police brutality in his Sundance and Cannes standout Fruitvale Station.

What to Read Next

These are busy times for Coogler, as he embarks on bringing Marvel Comics hero Black Panther to the big screen for a solo superhero adventure in 2018.

There are also rumblings of a Creed sequel, although there's no confirmation of that project yet.
