Pacific Rim was as if Guillermo del Toro took a mecha anime series like Mobile Suit Gundam and turned it into live-action, so it only seems fitting that it is actually getting an anime spin-off.

As reported by Deadline, Netflix are going on a spree of ordering original anime projects, possibly off the back of the success of Castlevania.

As if it couldn't get any more trope-y, this Pacific spin-off will focus on a pair of orphaned siblings. The show will be co-run by Greg Johnson and Craig Kyle, who were responsible for X-Men: Evolution and Wolverine and the X-Men.

The Netflix Original Altered Carbon is also getting made into an anime. It will be set in the same universe as the main show. This one will be written by Dai Satō, who penned Wolf's Rain, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and the legendary Cowboy Bebop.

Beyond that, we've got three original series: Cagaster of an Insect Cage (from Hellsing and Afro Samurai makers Gonzo), Yasuke (from The Boondocks' LeSean Thomas), and Trese (from The Legend of Korra's Jay Oliva).

What to Read Next

Netflix has been expanding its anime output recently, from their original series Castlevania and Voltron: Legendary Defender, to snapping up the rights to everything from One Punch Man, Attack on Titan, Bleach and Batman Ninja. The less said about their live-action versions of Fullmetal Alchemist and Death Note the better, though.

Now if they could just get Yu Yu Hakusho on there, we'd be golden.
