Following his appearances in fellow Netflix Marvel shows The Defenders and Luke Cage, Danny Rand is ready to make an explosive return to his own show in the upcoming second season of Iron Fist.

And, going by this brand new teaser trailer, it looks like season two is going to put Danny through the wringer more than ever.

Things aren't always as they seem," the Marvel account tweeted.

The new preview sees Danny, played by Finn Jones, and Colleen Wing (Jessica Henwick) taking a stroll down a sunny New York street, before everyday sights start causing Danny to have visions of himself during his time in K'un Lun.

And they're not peaceful images either, as he's seen having a brutal fight with fellow disciple and old friend Davos, played by Sacha Dhawan, which ends with Danny getting very bloodied indeed.

What's more, Danny can also be seen wearing his yellow eye mask in the trailer too – otherwise known as the classic Iron Fist outfit from the comics.

The trailer ends with a clearly concerned Colleen asking Danny if he's okay, to which he says: "It's just a bad memory."

"It's in the past," Colleen replies, but it seems it's not as simple as all that, as Danny says back: "I hope so."

Which is almost definitely code for it's not over yet – well, that and the fact we have a whole season of episodes to binge on.

Iron Fist's second season will see Alice Eve join the cast as Typhoid Mary, who in the Marvel comics is a powerful mutant with telekinesis and dissociative identity disorder.

Eve has described her character as "very very violent", adding: "The reason I took the role is because I got to play someone with multiple personalities."

Tom Pelphrey will be returning as Ward Meachum, with Jessica Stroup also due to come back as Ward's sister Joy.

Iron Fist season two will arrive on Netflix on September 7.
