It's official: Clark Gregg will be working on the sixth season of Marvel's Agents of SHIELD.
Before booking yourself a holiday to Tahiti to celebrate this joyous news, it's not quite as straightforward as it may seem.
The show's official Twitter account did indeed confirm during Comic-Con International on Saturday (July 21) that Gregg is back to work on the ABC series.
However, Gregg will actually be behind the camera directing the season six premiere of Agents of SHIELD, which will be titled 'Missing Pieces'. Whether he appears on-camera as Agent Coulson still is unknown.
The series left Agent Coulson's fate mysterious in the season five finale, but it appeared he'd be living out his final days in Tahiti with May (Ming-Na Wen) after blasting General Talbot (Adrian Pasdar) into space.
Gregg has since returned to the Marvel Cinematic Universe by filming scenes for next year's Captain Marvel, but has said that he's open to returning as Agent Coulson in Agents of SHIELD as well.
What to Read Next
"I'm available for whatever they need me to do and we'll just be figuring it out," he said in May. "We just got picked up a few days ago. That's what we'll have to figure out going forward.
"I hope to be involved, maybe I'll be an LMD (Life Model Decoy) or maybe I'll be in a C-3P0 suit and I'll be everybody's starchy Brit robot."
Unfortunately, fans have to wait until next summer to see the return of Agents of SHIELD.
The show will completely sidestep the issue of Thanos' finger snap of doom in Infinity War by waiting until after Avengers 4's release to return to screens.
Agents of SHIELD airs on ABC in the US and E4 in the UK.
