Update: Netflix is interested in picking up political thriller Designated Survivor, Deadline reports. The negotiations are reportedly complex as streaming rival Hulu has the on-demand rights to the first two seasons in the US, but at the same time, Netflix does carry the show internationally.

ABC brought the axe down on Kiefer Sutherland's political drama, but days later, it appears there may be a lifeline as fans campaign for the show to be brought back.
According to Deadline, distribution company eOne is trying to pitch for another network to pick the series up for another season (Brooklyn Nine-Nine-style).

"[We are] in active discussions with other parties for further series of the show," it said in a statement.

Designated Survivor stars Sutherland as Tom Kirkman, a low-level politician thrust into the presidency when the entire cabinet was killed in a massive terror attack.
Sutherland himself previously told Digital Spy that he was optimistic about a third season, saying: "I do believe it is [coming back], but nothing is ever written in stone.
"I think television is such an exciting format right now, and so much great work is being done. [But] I think networks are very challenged by how to keep up."
The show wasn't the only notable casualty, as Priyanka Chopra's Quantico and Marvel's Inhumans were given the chop as well.
But it was better news for comedies Fresh Off the Boat and black-ish, which will be returning to ABC for their fifth seasons. Marvel's Agents of SHIELD is also coming back for a shortened sixth season.
