Will & Grace has had a glittery array of stars over the years, with everyone from Cher to Glenn Close to Kevin Bacon to Madonna (although she had no idea what was going on) appearing.

But there's one bona-fide gay icon that hasn't been ticked off the list yet, although it turns out that she came VERY close.

Digital Spy spoke to the cast of the hit revived sitcom about their dream celebrity guests, when Megan Mullally dropped this bombshell.

"I wanted Meryl Streep to come on, but now she's going to do Big Little Lies," she told us.

"They tried to get her the first time around, and apparently they almost got her. But she didn't do it. I'm sure there are people that I can't think of."

Will actor Eric McCormack said he really wants Justin Trudeau, explaining: "Because I'm Canadian, and I think it would be a great plot to have Will have a secret Canadian boyfriend he can't say.

What to Read Next

"Everyone's like, 'Why, you don't have a boyfriend. That's why. You're just lying'. And it's revealed that it's Justin.

"I'm going to keep saying that so that one day Justin reads that and goes, 'I like that idea!' And I think he would. I think it might [happen]."

Meanwhile, Sean Hayes says he'd like his friend Martin Short, Steve Martin or Tom Hanks on the show.

One celebrity who is apparently making a return for two appearances is Jennifer Lopez, once as herself and once as her Shades of Blue character.

The cast also exclusively told us that there has been talk of a season 11 and beyond (we're currently part of the way through season 9).

Will & Grace continues on Channel 5 on Fridays at 10pm.
