Marvel's new series The Punisher is set to hit Netflix at some point this year, but while we don't know when exactly that will be, we do know what it'll look like.

Thanks to a series of brand new, first-look photos of the series' upcoming episodes, we can catch a glimpse of Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle as he comes out of hiding to seek vengeance.

After exacting revenge on those responsible for the death of his wife and children, Frank Castle uncovers a conspiracy that runs far deeper than New York's criminal underworld and takes on the role of The Punisher once again to exact justice.

So yep, it's going to get dark.

But if you were expecting Frank Castle to be some sort of hero in his own series, then it appears that you would be very much mistaken.

Revealing what kind of direction he's planning to take the role, Jon Bernthal recently admitted that he found himself in an "interesting predicament" over his "brutal" nature.

Explaining that he wanted to "preserve the essence of Frank" without turning the audience away from him, Jon said: "I think Frank is brutal. Frank is damaged. Frank is tortured.

"I think Frank, when he engages in violence, there's something utterly satisfying and addictive for him to be doing that, and that may not be something that the audience can agree with or get behind."

Frank Castle will continue his one-man war on crime in the underworld of New York City when The Punisher hits Netflix later this year.
