13 Reasons Why became a Netflix hit earlier this year, but at the same time drew controversy over the way it depicted suicide.

Singer Selena Gomez, who is also a producer on the drama, has come to its defence.

"This is happening every day," she told Elvis Duran and the Morning Show (via Entertainment Weekly). "Whether or not you wanted to see it, that's what's happening.

"The content is complicated. It's dark and it has moments that are honestly very hard to swallow, and I understood that we were doing something that is difficult.

"But these kids today are so exposed to things that I would never even comprehend when I was 8. My cousin teaches third grade and they're doing things and saying things that I couldn't even fathom."

Selena previously said that she was "so excited" for season two, and that there were some moments she learned from being in the writers' room which left her "almost freaking out".

Details for season two are still pretty sparse right now, but we do know that the cassette tapes are being scrapped and those hoping to see comeuppance for Bryce Walker have good reason to be optimistic.

"[I want to] see somebody punch Bryce in the face," show creator Brian Yorkey said.
