It seems like you can't say anything on the internet to a friend nowadays without it causing a stir.

Girls star and creator Lena Dunham was having a chat/interview with close friend Amy Schumer when she described meeting New York Giants star Odell Beckham Jr. at the Met Gala earlier this year.

Dunham said: "It was so amazing because it was like he looked at me and he determined I was not the shape of a woman by his standards. He was like, 'That's a marshmallow. That's a child. That's a dog.' It wasn't mean — he just seemed confused.

"The vibe was very much like, 'Do I want to f**k it? Is it wearing a … yep, it's wearing a tuxedo. I'm going to go back to my cell phone.'

It was like we were forced to be together, and he literally was scrolling Instagram rather than have to look at a woman in a bow tie. I was like, 'This should be called the Metropolitan Museum of Getting Rejected by Athletes.'"

Social media didn't see the funny side of Dunham's anecdote, and hit out at the feminist comedian for having double standards and racism.

Some tweeters also took offence at the fact Dunham mentioned grinding on Fantastic Four and Creed actor Michael B. Jordan before commenting on Odell Beckham Jr.

The comedian used her Twitter to give some context to what she said.

The moral of this story? Humour is subjective.
