Jennifer Grey had the time of her life in the original Dirty Dancing. The remake? Not so much.

ABC is currently finishing up a TV musical extravaganza re-imagining the 1987 blockbuster - with Abigail Breslin and Colt Prattes replacing Grey and Patrick Swayze.

Grey was also asked to pitch in for Dirty Dancing 2.0 - but felt her involvement would be "sacrosanct".

"I was asked to do something on that show and I was flattered because I always want to be asked because it's nice to want to be included," Grey told The Hollywood Reporter.

"But for me, it would be sacrosanct for me to do it because it didn't feel appropriate to me… It feels like if you're going to do your own thing, do your own thing. I wouldn't say [what role it would have been] but I will tell you, it wasn't Baby."

That doesn't mean Grey is totally opposed to a Dirty Dancing remake.

"I am always interested in any iteration of something where they feel there's more to be gotten and I would love to see what it is that they come up with," she explained.

Grey went on to say: "I think they've got wonderful actors in it. I'm going to be watching it and I'm excited."

Joining Abigail Breslin and Colt Prattes in the new Dirty Dancing are X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger, Modern Family's Sarah Hyland and Sons of Anarchy's Katey Sagal.

Dirty Dancing is expected to samba onto ABC later in the year.
