Guy Ritchie's new Prime Video Sherlock series offers a re-imagining of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s much-loved detective and the characters who inhabit his world. Young Sherlock sees Hero Fiennes Tiffin as 19-year-old amateur detective Holmes, who is not yet a world-famous sleuth.

Irish actor Dónal Finn takes on the role of Holmes' future nemesis James Moriarty, who was memorably played by Andrew Scott in the BBC series starring Benedict Cumberbatch.

Speaking about how Scott's portrayal of Moriarty influenced his, Finn told Metro: "It’s kind of undeniable to be informed by previous iterations of it – I don’t say that like [I’m] drawing on past performances of Moriarty to influence this, [but] simply because I was watching them as a young person getting into film and television.

"Particularly, Andrew Scott and Benedict Cumberbatch, and their willingness to make huge character leaps and decisions, was just so inspiring."

Finn explained that he found Scott's performance more "just informative for being an actor", sharing that he's always been one of his acting heroes.
