Grey's Anatomy star Stefania Spampinato has been cast in the second season of Landman, the "gritty" star-studded drama from Taylor Sheridan.

The actor, who portrays Dr Carina DeLuca-Bishop in ABC's medical drama and its spin-off Station 19, will reportedly play the wife of crime boss Galino (Andy Garcia), who made his first appearance in the finale of the first season (via Deadline).

The Paramount+ series, co-created by Sheridan and Christian Wallace, follows struggling Texas-based oil executive Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton) as he attempts to catapult his company to the top of the food chain during a boom in the industry.

Co-starring Demi Moore and Jon Hamm, the first season of Landman received generally positive reviews upon its premiere in November, with the drama currently possessing an approval rating of 78% on Rotten Tomatoes from 36 reviews.

"Landman plumbs much of the same territory as other Taylor Sheridan-penned series, but having Billy Bob Thornton on hand turns this Texas crude into highly watchable fuel," said the site in its critical consensus.

In our review, we wrote that Landman depicted a "strongman plagued by modern anxieties who you want to root for", with the "folksy frontier setting" and "quintessentially rugged Western man" being carried over from Sheridan's mega-successful Yellowstone.

"That world is starkly evoked," wrote The Guardian as it called the series "gritty", while Slant Magazine said that the series offered an "unvarnished look at a contentious industry and the lives tethered to it".

"The main reason to watch Landman is Thornton. He brings genuine juice to speeches that shouldn’t be as entertaining as they are," noted AV Club, while the Chicago Sun-Times said the series had "all the makings of a long-running hit".

"Love or wince at some dialog, though, Landman is a triumph of enjoyable performances," wrote TheWrap, while The Globe and Mail was similarly positive as it branded the show "bonkers, exhausting and compulsively watchable".

Landman is streaming on Paramount+. Grey's Anatomy season 21 airs on Thursdays at 10pm ET on ABC in the US. Previous seasons are streaming on Disney+ in the UK.
