The White Lotus star Natasha Rothwell has teased a new relationship for her character in season three.

Beloved spa worker Belinda (played by Rothwell) first appeared in season one but did not return for the second season, which took place in Sicily. The fan favourite character will be back for the upcoming instalment as the show follows a new cast in Thailand.

Season three will showcase a different side of Belinda by introducing her grown-up son Zion (Nicholas Duvernay), who has been away studying for a while.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy, Rothwell shared her excitement for the new on-screen relationship and gushed about her co-star.

"First of all, Nicholas Duvernay is an amazing actor and I'm so excited for the world to meet him," she said. "He's so bright and so talented and so symmetrical and good-looking."

The actor explained the dynamic between Belinda and Zion, drawing parallels to her own relationship with her parents.

"I think it's really cool to play a mother of a son that is in adulthood. Me, personally, I had to figure out a new relationship with my parents when I was an adult, it's like okay, they're real people and they're human and humans make mistakes.

"I think we see that relationship burgeoning, of them learning each other in a new way, because he's been away at grad school and so to see him as an adult and to give him a little bit of space in this environment is pretty fun."

Elsewhere, Rothwell addressed whether romance could be on the cards for Belinda, despite her being on a work-related trip to the hotel.

"One should hope. I mean hello, everyone else is getting boned," joked the star. "No, I’m kidding. I think we get to see Belinda outside of her work uniform and I'll leave it at that."

She added: "Expect the unexpected, it is The White Lotus after all. I'm excited for audiences to see more of her, her life, at work - because she's there for work and training - but she's also a guest, so I think there's a transition that takes place, where she is trying to figure out how to be there in both capacities."

The White Lotus season three is set to premiere on February 16 on HBO and Max in the US and February 17 on Sky and NOW in the UK. Seasons 1-2 are available to stream on Sky and NOW.
