Netflix's new murder mystery The Perfect Couple, starring Nicole Kidman, has drawn comparisons to HBO's The White Lotus. Across reviews and recommendations, the message has been that if you love one, you'll love the other.
We couldn't help but ask show boss Susanne Bier about this during a recent interview and, while she seemed flattered at the thought, she also underlined that The Perfect Couple has a different approach.
"I love White Lotus, so I'd be honoured," Susanne Bier – who has also previously worked on The Undoing and The Night Manager – told Digital Spy.

"But I do feel it's very different though," she continued. "It's obvious, you know, there is a kind of like wealthy people in a sexy beachy environment – and murder mysteries – but I feel it's a completely different take."
An adaptation of the novel of the same name by Elin Hilderbrand, published in 2018, The Perfect Couple centres on a wealthy family in Nantucket who fall under suspicion when a body is discovered near their home.

The ensemble cast, led by Nicole Kidman, also includes Liev Schreiber, Dakota Fanning, Meghann Fahy and Jack Reynor.
Susanne Bier also confirmed that "there's a tonne of" visual clues and tiny details in the storytelling. It's something The Perfect Couple does impeccably well, although Bier wants audiences to sit back and enjoy.
"I do want the audience to go on a ride, and not feel that they have to sit there and look for cinematic clues to the mystery," she said, before confirming that, while the mystery won't be solved by these details, "they are there".
The Perfect Couple is available on Netflix now.
