Former Ted Lasso and Strictly Come Dancing star Ellie Taylor has explained how she nearly missed out on her role on the hit football show.

The comedian, who played Flo 'Sassy' Collins on the Apple TV+ series, said she almost didn't show up for her audition because it was difficult to get to.

Taylor, who plays Flo 'Sassy' Collins on the series, appeared on The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X and revealed sorting public transport for her audition almost put her off going altogether.

"Yeah, yeah. I feel so lucky. Honestly, it was an absolute gift of a part," she said of the role.

"And I didn't want to go to the audition as well; it was really far the other side of London. I was like, I'm going to have to get two trains and a bus! Really begrudging, 'That's another thing I'm not going to get!'"

She added: "Can you imagine if I didn't bother going because I didn't want to get the bus? So thankfully, yeah, I did go along, and it all worked out."

Taylor had a very relaxed approach to her joining one of the most popular sports show around. The actor said she initially wasn't sure she'd done a "good job" as she'd only seen her own scenes.

"I did watch it, yeah. Yeah. I didn't initially, because we didn't have Apple TV+," she said.

"And I wasn't very sure about the show, because I'd only filmed, obviously, my scenes. I hadn't seen the rest of the script. Didn't really know what to make of it. I couldn't work out the tone of it when I was filming it. I wasn't sure I had done a particularly good job."

After she started watching the show though, Taylor said the GLAAD Media Award winning show's heart-warming vibe helped get her through the pandemic.

"So then got it, like, bought Apple and was like, 'Oh it is good, isn't it?!' And me and my husband don't really have much in common telly-wise, but we really enjoyed it together," she shared.

"So it was lovely. And it came at the right time, sort of during COVID, when everyone needed sort of positivity and something that wasn't very cynical. And, yeah, it was great. So yeah, I really enjoyed watching it."

Ted Lasso is streaming in its entirety on Apple TV+. The Chris Moyles Show airs on Radio X weekdays from 6.30am and on Global Player.
