Loki season 2 episode 4 spoilers follow.

Things got pretty hairy for Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and co. at the end of season two episode four, and by hairy we mean 'end of the world… on all timelines' kind of hairy.

Loki and the team's plans to fix the overcharged Temporal Loom before it overloaded bucked up against several hurdles.

Their plan to expand the Temporal Loom's rings with the use of a gadget called the 'through-put multiplier' went disastrously wrong from the jump. Victor Timely (aka the original Kang) was tasked with loading and launching the 'through-put-multiplier', but before he could action this plan, Timely was ripped to shreds upon impact.

The force of the overcharged time stream was evidently too much for his body to take.

In any instance, the looks on the faces of those who witnessed his horrific demise were the double of our own. A fixed expression of 'what the hell just happened and what does it all mean?'.

There wasn't much time to ponder this thought, however, because in the mere moments that followed, the overworked, overloaded Temporal Loom seemed to finally give up, exploding a bright light that appeared to rip through the timelines on its way towards the TVA where Loki and his allies remain.

The episode ended with a terrified-looking Loki being bathed in a brilliantly blinding light amidst the trembling of the TVA.

Could this mean the end for them all?

Did everyone die in Loki season 2 episode 4?

The very thing Loki and his allies were desperately trying to avoid has come to pass. The Temporal Loom is kaput and in its destruction has taken everything with it, including the timelines and the TVA. This would imply that all the lives on the timeline, including the sacred timeline, have ceased to exist.

However, that would mean the end of Loki altogether and since we still have two more episodes of this season, we aren't foolish enough to believe the entire cast has been wiped out.

It's possible that the obliteration of the timelines through the eruption of the Temporal Loom simply pruned all of the lives on the branches.

This could mean that Loki, and a whole lot of other people, could have been sent to the wasteland known as The Void, where Loki and the other Loki variants ended up in season one.

This of course is just a guess. Naturally, with Marvel being as tight-lipped with their stories as they are know to be, there is not a kernel of information floating in the abyss to glean anything from.

However, we can bank on some key survivors remaining with some keen plan to restore whatever is left of the Temporal Loom or the timelines.

It is possible, however, that Victor Timely's demise on the sacred timeline could be the one death that sticks.

Even if the team were able to find some fix for the events that just took place and restore some, if not all of the timelines, in a safe way, we can't think who would be willing to bring another Kang from another timeline back to the sacred one.

Especially considering that Timely has burnt his bridges with Miss Minutes (Tara Strong) and Ravonna Renslayer (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), who consequently have developed a taste for power all on their own.

They won't be looking to hand another boy-Kang a version of the TVA handbook in a hurry that's for sure.

Which brings us onto who could be the next ultimate foe for Loki to contend with.

Miss Minutes and Renslayer have proven that they are capable of some serious atrocities (need we mention the brutal deaths of the TVA agents who wouldn't bow to Renslayer's new regime in this episode).

Even producer Kevin Wright has confirmed that there is scope for this evil duo to play a bigger part of the MCU's overarching story.

When discussing the potential of other MCU filmmakers using Renslayer and Miss Minutes in their stories, Wright told Digital Spy: "I think they will."

Wright said: "We can do all sorts of fun, evil things with [Miss Minutes]," before adding: "Renslayer in the comics has just this rich history of being a really great villain and just the fact that it's Gugu, I would love to see more of her in all sorts of places."

Loki season 2 is available to watch now on Disney Plus with new episodes airing every Friday
