Loki season two, episode one spoilers follow.

The God of Mischief is back. Or we should say Gods if we are to count Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino), though her presence throughout season two's debut episode was a lot scarcer than we had expected.

When we last saw the female Loki she had just finished duelling it out at the end of time.

After she'd finished kicking Loki (Tom Hiddleston) through a time portal, she ended the finale by completing her life's mission of killing He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors) and did so in the most spectacularly dramatic fashion.

However, it seems that plunging a dagger into the Kang variant's chest was not the salve Sylvie had been anticipating; instead her blank stare followed by tears hinted at an emptiness within.

So what became of Sylvie after her successful mission didn't bring her the joy she'd hoped for?

What happened to Sylvie in Loki season 2?

The opening episode saw Loki pummelled by problem after problem, starting with his unintentional time-slipping.

That means Loki had been hopping between different time periods, unable to remain in the present day.

He enlisted Mobius (Owen Wilson) to help him get things under control but they soon discovered through their chat with the man in charge of repairs and advancement, Ouroboros 'OB' (Ke Huy Quan), that the temporal loom (the very thing keeping the flow of time in check) has been overloaded by all the new sprouting branches. Catastrophe is nigh.

Loki was also determined to find Sylvie, who the TVA were still hunting.

It's a bit of a manic mess.

He rallied a team around him, B-15 (Wunmi Mosaku) included, to help tackle all these pressing problems that seemed to be colliding at once and they made some headway.

OB was able to figure out a solution for Loki's time slipping (the temporal loom is another story).

However, it involved Mobius plunging an extractor device into the time stream to pull Loki out after he had pruned himself. This they had to pull off before OB was required to close the blast doors to protect the TVA from the temporal loom that was moments from meltdown. So no pressure.

Things became even dicier when Loki unexpectedly travelled through time again and ended up in the future.

Luckily a mysterious figure pruned him at just the right moment — but not before he caught a glimpse of Sylvie from the future at the TVA.

Since we doubt she's been hiding at the TVA, the question remains where has Sylvie been?

Loki isn't able to stick around for answers but there doesn't mean there aren't any.

Where has Sylvie been hiding in Loki season 2?

If you hung around waiting for a post-credits scene like any true Marvel fan then your efforts were not in vain as it revealed exactly where Sylvie has been… Sort of.

The end credits show Sylvie arriving in 1982 Broxton, Oklahoma, on a branched timeline (separate from the sacred one) where she stumbles upon a McDonald's, no less.

Killing villains clearly gives one an appetite because she attempted to order some food, telling the server:

"Not squirrel, not possum, not rats, something that's already dead and nothing with a face, please."

We applaud his no-judgement attitude as he steered towards the less hunter-gatherer options of Chicken McNuggets and a Big Mac.

As he reeled off the menu, Sylvie looked around and finally decided:

"I want to try everything."

With so few words, Sylvie gave fans an indication of her next move. She's spent aeons of her life running from and dodging the TVA.

Now with no Kang-led-script for how her life should turn out she means to live it.

This is the reason why she felt so empty after his death. His demise alone was not enough to make up for what she'd lost, she needed something more meaningful and this is it.

Whether she remains in 1982 is another story – she may have cropped up here and bounced along some timelines until she found the best fit – but it doesn't really matter.

She's done with the mission and the killing, she just wants to be free and live her life. At least for now.

Loki season 2, episode 1 is streaming now on Disney+ with new episodes airing weekly on Fridays.
