Despite being announced four years ago, updates on Michelle Yeoh's Star Trek: Discovery spin-off series have been few and far between.

The show is set to focus on the actress's character Philippa Georgiou, and Paramount Streaming's chief programming officer gave a disappointing update at the Television Critics Association press tour.

Tanya Giles confirmed that the show is still far from being released. However, she reassured fans and told TVLine: "It’s still in development."

The highly-anticipated series is set to focus on Starfleet's Section 31, which recruited Georgiou's mirror universe alternative Emperor Georgiou.

Speaking about the project in the past, showrunner Alex Kurtzman revealed that the idea came from Yeoh herself.

He explained: "The minute [Discovery] became successful, we started that conversation".

However, Kurtzman also stressed that the spin-off would offer something different to the other Star Trek series including Discovery.

"[It's important] that it doesn’t feel like you’re getting the same thing from each show. In that sense, each show has its own identity," he added.

Yeoh has been pretty busy of late, most recently starring in Witcher prequel Blood Origin, while she also won a Golden Globe for Best Actress for her performance in the acclaimed indie movie Everything Everywhere All at Once.

She has also landed a role in the upcoming Wicked movie, signing on to play Madame Morrible opposite the likes of Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.

Alongside these roles, it was announced that Yeoh had joined Kenneth Branagh's next Poirot mystery A Haunting in Venice, as well as The Suicide Squad’s Pete Davidson and Netflix soap series The Brothers Sun, which will include an all-Asian cast and all-Asian writers room.
