Big Little Lies star Zoë Kravitz has revealed the fate of the show following its second season.

The HBO drama wrapped up its second run in July 2019, and the pandemic and subsequent the death of director Jean-Marc Vallée put its future in doubt.

Now Kravitz has stated that she thinks a third season just isn't going to work anymore.

Speaking on a Q&A hosted by GQ, Kravitz said: "I don't think it is. We talked about doing a season 3 a lot and, unfortunately, Jean-Marc Vallée, our incredible director, passed away this last year and I just can't imagine going on without him.

"He really was the visionary for that show. So, unfortunately, it's done."

Just last month, co-star Reese Witherspoon stated that the cast were "always talking and texting" and that a third season was possible, but Vallée's death really hit them all hard.

"Jean-Marc Vallée’s passing was really hard on us. He was our collaborator. He was our friend," she said.

"He was our brother. So much of that series was born of his imagination and his creativity, so it is hard to imagine a future without him. But there is certainly a deep desire for all of us to connect and create those characters again."

Kravitz has plenty of upcoming projects on her CV, including a super-powered heist thriller called The Sundance Kid Might Have Some Regrets, as well as her directorial debut Pussy Island, which has gathered quite an impressive cast of actors.

Big Little Lies aired on HBO in the US and on Sky Atlantic in the UK.
