Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have separated after 19 years of marriage, bringing an end to a relationship that has lasted for two decades – here's a timeline of their romance.
TMZ reported on Monday (29 September) that the pair had officially split after a period in which they had lived apart, with Kidman raising their two children at the family home in Nashville.
Urban, a singer-songwriter with four Grammy Awards to his name, has reportedly found a new residence in the Tennessee city. It is currently unknown when – or if – divorce proceedings will begin.
The news comes just over 20 years after the pair initially met, with the couple tying the knot the following year. They welcomed a baby girl in 2008, with a second following two years later.

January 2005: Kidman and Urban meet for the very first time at the G'Day gala in Los Angeles
Despite both being Australian (although Urban was actually born in New Zealand), the pair didn't meet in their native country. Instead, the couple met after attending the G'Day gala in LA, with the event helping to promote Australian culture in the US.
Though they struck up a bond, Kidman revealed during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2017 that Urban didn't call in the subsequent four months – despite the fact that she had a "crush on him".
May 2006: Engagement after living together in New York City
While Urban had not called Kidman in the four months after their initial meeting, the pair got together at some point in 2005 and started living together in New York City, with the actor recalling a special moment in their relationship during an interview with PEOPLE.
"It was my [38th] birthday, and he stood outside with gardenias at 5am on my stoop in New York," she recalled in 2019. "That is when I went, 'This is the man I hope I get to marry.'"
The actor got her wish, with the pair becoming engaged in 2006. She confirmed the news on 15 May during an appearance at the 30th anniversary gala for the United Nations Development Fund for Women, where the couple appeared together on the red carpet.
June 2006: Tying the knot in Australia
Despite spending the vast majority of their time in the US, the couple decided to return to their homeland for their wedding ceremony, which took place at St Patrick's Estate in Manly on 25 June 2006.
Isabella and Connor, Kidman's children from her previous marriage to Tom Cruise, played a role in the ceremony, with the actor and Urban subsequently heading to French Polynesia for their honeymoon.

October 2006: Urban checks himself into rehab
Just four months on from their big day, Urban entered rehab for alcohol dependency, with the country singer being released after three months of treatment. In subsequent years, he has praised Kidman for helping him recover from addiction.
July 2008: The pair welcome a child
After moving to Nashville – the home of country music – in November 2007, the couple confirmed in January 2008 that they were expecting a child together. Sunday Rose was subsequently born on 7 July 2008.
December 2010: Kidman and Urban have a second daughter
Kidman and Urban confirmed on 28 December 2010 that they had welcomed their second daughter, Faith Margaret, via surrogate; the couple had kept the news of a pregnancy private up to that point.
February 2021: A family outing at the Golden Globe Awards
Kidman and Urban, along with their two daughters, got dressed up for a big occasion at the 78th Golden Globe Awards on 28 February 2021. The quartet appeared via video link for the ceremony, where the actor was nominated for her role in The Undoing.

The subsequent years saw the couple pictured on the red carpet at various Academy Award and Met Gala ceremonies, with their final public appearance as a couple coming in June 2025 during a FIFA Club World Cup match in Nashville.

A source confirms to both TMZ and PEOPLE that the duo have broken up after 20 years together, though it is reported that the split has mainly come from Urban's end. The pair are yet to release an official statement.
