Disney+ is going to be getting a new King Kong series, with Paper Girls' Stephany Folsom writing the script and Aquaman director James Wan serving as one of the executive producers.
The serialised adventure story will be linked to the 1933 film, with involvement from the estate of its director Merian C Cooper. According to The Hollywood Reporter, it will return to Skull Island and delve into the mysterious surrounding the location and its famous giant beastie.
This project is unrelated to the Kong film series from Legendary Pictures, which includes crossovers with Godzilla and other giant monsters like Rodan and King Ghidorah, and goes to Skull Island. There are a lot of complicated legal entanglements, but Legendary's MonsterVerse calls him 'Kong' and not 'King Kong' like this Disney+ one will do.

After last year's Godzilla vs Kong, Legendary Pictures are working on a sequel, and Downton Abbey star Dan Stevens is the first person to be cast. It's set to film in Australia this year.
A spokesperson for Screen Queensland said in a statement: "The production is expected to inject more than double the $36.5 million [Australian] that Godzilla vs Kong brought to the state and is a welcome boost to our economy as we recover from the impacts of the global pandemic and southeast Queensland flooding events.

Meanwhile, there's also going to be a TV series set in the MonsterVerse, set after the 2014 Godzilla movie. This one will focus on the secret organisation Monarch, and is likely set to come to HBO Max, which features all the movies in the franchise so far.
