Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire brings more titan smashing to the screen in time for Easter weekend.

Given that it's Easter, you might be looking for a new movie to see with the family at the cinema, and it certainly won't be Immaculate. If you've already seen Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, you might be wondering whether Godzilla x Kong is suitable for children.

Like the previous movie Godzilla vs Kong, it has been rated 12A in the UK by the BBFC and the same 12A rating by the Irish Film Classification Office.

The 12A has been in use at UK cinemas since the release of Spider-Man back in 2002, but there might still be some confusion over what it means.

It's a stronger version of the PG that doesn't stop children under 12 seeing a movie, but does mean they need to be accompanied by an adult. The certification leaves it up to the parents' discretion whether a movie is suitable for their younger children.

To that end, the BBFC releases detailed non-spoilery information about why a movie has been classified a 12A and not a softer PG. For Godzilla x Kong, the 12A rating is a result of "moderate fantasy violence, threat, injury detail".

What does this mean specifically? Well, the BBFC page for Godzilla x Kong has content advice delving into each category. For instance, the violence includes moments where "monsters strike each other with crunchy blows".

Some darker moments in the movie include when a "row of severed ape heads are briefly visible" and "partial sight of a human dead body in slightly bloodied water". Content-wise, it's very similar to previous MonsterVerse movies.

You can read the full breakdown on the BBFC's page for Godzilla x Kong before deciding if it's one that your younger children can see at the cinema.

If you're in the US, Godzilla x Kong has been rated PG-13. It's a stronger PG like the 12A and parental guidance is advised, but children under 13 don't need to be accompanied by an adult.
