Westworld season 4 spoilers follow.

Lisa Joy expects HBO to allow herself and Jonathan Nolan to complete their Westworld story.

Following the fourth season's jaw-on-the-floor finale, which seemingly killed off Tessa Thompson's Charlotte, Angela Sarafyan's Clementine, Ed Harris's Man in Black (again) and Aaron Paul's Caleb, the co-showrunner spoke about her hopes for season 5 of the sci-fi drama.

"Jonah and I have always had an ending in mind that we hope to reach. We have not quite reached it yet," Joy told the Deadline Crew Call podcast.

With so many central characters now in the Valley of the Beyond, she did go on to admit: "There are ways of conjuring characters back. There are some faces we will see again, but not all of them. Some deaths must be respected."

Meanwhile, returning Westworld star James Marsden previously addressed Teddy Flood's reintroduction in season 4, having been absent since season 2.

"I knew I was gonna go away for a bit but I couldn't tell anyone for a good couple of years. I knew I was going to go away at the end of the second. I didn't know for how long.

"Sometimes you have to go away to come back. We learn to speak cryptically on this show. This has been seven years of our show and yeah, it's an amazing thing to be a part of and see where the story goes.

"From the beginning, I didn't know where it was all gonna go but I'm glad to see it now," added the X-Men veteran.

Westworld season 4 airs on HBO in the US, and on Sky Atlantic and NOW in the UK. It's available now via digital platforms including iTunes, Amazon and Microsoft, and to pre-order on DVD and Blu-ray.
