Star Trek: Discovery star Sonequa Martin-Green has good news for fans of the show's big romance, Michael Burnham and Cleveland Booker, after season four saw the pair estranged and facing an uncertain future.

Burnham and Booker, played by Martin-Green and David Ajala respectively, spent much of last season apart before reuniting in the dramatic finale when Book's true fate was revealed and he returned to the crew of the Discovery.

This happy ending didn't last long though, as the episode ended with him being officially taken in for sentencing by President Rillak.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy, Martin-Green offered hope for the couple, saying: "I get the sense that these two are always going to be in each other's space somehow. They're connected at this point."

When we asked the star about what the future might hold for Burnham and Booker, she referred to their final scene together last season.

"I think it's very much what they say in that last moment they have together in [the finale] – that Kwejian quote. It's very much that," she said.

The "Kwejian quote" (as in, the language of Book’s homeworld) was "Kwakoni Yiquan", which we previously learned translates to: "We've parted a hundred times, may we part to rejoin a hundred more."

Speaking further on the pair's growing relationship over the course of the series, Martin-Green said: "I think that for Burnham, Book represents a great deal of things.

"He represented the new future for a long time, and now this actualisation that has happened in Burnham was certainly because of the influence of Book and she's grateful to him for that – just as he is to her."

The fourth season has recently dropped in its entirety on Paramount+ in the UK, after being pulled from Netflix just days before its initial release.

Filming for season five of the show is also underway.
