Westworld spoilers ahead.

Westworld season 4 will begin airing on next month, it's been announced.

This premiere date bookends the HBO sci-fi hit's new first-look trailer (above), which uses Lou Reed tune 'Perfect Day' to tease apocalyptic comeuppances for its cast of sentient robots and humans. The series comes to US screens on Sunday, June 26, with a UK release date yet to be announced.

Evan Rachel Wood (as Dolores), Thandiwe Newton (Maeve), Jeffrey Wright (Bernard), Ed Harris (The Man in Black), Angela Sarafyan (Clementine), Aaron Paul (Caleb) and Tessa Thompson (Charlotte) all return.

Oscar winner Ariana DeBose will join them in a mysterious recurring role, TVLine) reports.

Wood's appearance in the footage may shock a fair few Westworld watchers, since her character was seemingly erased from existence in the season 3 finale.

At the time, co-showrunner Jonathan Nolan told Variety: "I think it's important with a show in which death can be impermanent – these are robots, after all – to mark the occasion with Dolores. That version of that character is gone.

"We love Evan Rachel Wood and we haven't started talking publicly about exactly what the show looks like going forward. But it looks very different."

Meanwhile, Wright – most recently seen as Gotham City police lieutenant James Gordon in The Batman told Deadline of season 4: "[It's] going to be more of the Westworld you've come to expect and more digging down into some issues and some technology that is going to look familiar to us, as always. It's gonna be exciting.

"Bernard is still trying to solve it all and he is still very much a part of the struggle. The struggle goes on, and Bernard is right there at the center of it. It's gonna be fun."

Westworld season 4 premieres on Sunday, June 26, airing on HBO in the US. In the UK, the show airs on Sky Atlantic and NOW.
