Breaking Bad star's next TV show confirmed after Better Call Saul

Breaking Bad's Jonathan Banks has landed his next TV role before Better Call Saul reaches its end with its sixth and final season later this month.

Banks will star alongside Noomi Rapace (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) in Apple TV+'s upcoming psychological thriller series titled Constellation.

In an official synopsis shared by the streamer, the series follows Jo (Rapace), whose return to Earth after a disaster in space finds that crucial elements of her life seem to be missing.

While details about Banks's character are yet to emerge, the space adventure is an "exploration of the dark edges of human psychology," one woman's "desperate quest to expose the truth about the hidden history of space travel" and "recover all that she has lost".

The eight-episode series is written and executive produced by Peter Harness (Is Anybody There?) under his Haunted Barn Ltd banner. And Michelle MacLaren (Coyote) will direct the first two episodes and executive produce.

News of Banks' next TV role comes after AMC announced in December last year that Better Call Saul will end after its sixth season on April 18.

Speaking about the finale in February this year, showrunner Peter Gould teased in a statement: "In my eyes, this is our most ambitious, surprising and, yes, heartbreaking season.

"Even under incredibly challenging circumstances, the whole Saul team – writers, cast, producers, directors and crew – have outdone themselves. I couldn't be more excited to share what we've accomplished together."

The series saw Banks reprise the role of Mike Ehrmantraut from Breaking Bad – which earned him one Emmy nomination for playing Mike and another four for the same character in Better Call Saul. Other credits include the movie Mudbound and the TV series Wiseguy.

Better Call Saul seasons 1 to 5 are streaming on Netflix, with a sixth arriving on April 18.
