The Wheel of Time episode 2's grossest scene was "inspired" by a dream sequence in the original books.
Series creator Rafe Judkins delivered this insight during an exclusive conversation with Digital Spy recently, as the topic turned to Rand al'Thor spewing up a bat (ew).
"The revolting bat scene is actually not something that is in the books, but it's inspired by a dream scene that's in the books that is equally revolting," he explained to us.
"We just tried to... I don't know. You know, the writer of that episode, AK Shuman, she was like... She and I were just talking about what would be the most disgusting thing that you could possibly imagine. And that's where we landed [laughs]."
Judkins also opened up about the high-pressure task of adapting the late author Robert Jordan's beloved fantasy works.

"I think that knowing all the books, and being a fan of the books – obviously, I'm going to be a fan of different things than other people are who read them 14 times," he said. "So I always keep in my head – you know, weighing in my shoulders, pressing me to the ground – this feeling of: 'I want to do right by the people who love these books.'

"And the last thing I would ever want to do is make a show that, you know, people who love the books, don't see their series – the series that they spun in their head – in the show," he continued.
"And things will always be different, and there will be things that we lean into that are different than what someone else who adapted it might have leaned into. But I hope that they all are able to see, like, the core of what they loved about The Wheel of Time in the show."
