Legacies boss explains the impact of Hopes's twist on season 4

Legacies spoilers follow.

Legacies fans were in for quite a shocker of an episode this week. Nothing will ever be the same in the Vampire Diaries universe as The CW show just pulled off something that previous shows only teased.

In Thursday's (November 4) show, titled "See You on the Other Side" – which was supposed to be the season 3 finale – Hope Mikaelson (played by Danielle Rose Russell) completed her transformation into a vampire, which means she is not the Tribrid: part witch, part werewolf and part vampire, and no longer human.

In one already iconic scene, Hope used her dead body (we know, it sounds crazy) to create a sword to kill Malivore, but in doing so, she also killed Landon. We told you it was a shocker.

Fortunately, Legacies fans will only have to wait a week to see the fallout of Hope’s death and resurgence as a never-before-seen creature.

Speaking to TV Guide, series showrunner Brett Matthews teased that this week's events are going to have "very major implications for the show and obviously for Hope's character, and as a result ripples through all of her friends".

He added: "It is very much a tidal change, and it is going to affect the entire world. Legacies will always be the most optimistic of the three canon shows, but there's no question that the show will be a little darker in season 4, and will grow up as our actors grow up."

Matthews went on to say that relationships will be "radically altered" as every character will have to deal with the fallout of what just happened.

"I would say it's probably going to be our least romantic season of Legacies ever," he confirmed. "This is a bomb that has dropped in the universe of the show and it is going to really affect the future of things.

"Characters are going to be faced with very hard decisions, and characters are going to make decisions that they don't necessarily like and people may not like, but it's challenging."

As our gang of characters are growing up, the scale of their problems is also about to increase exponentially, said the Legacies boss. "They will be dealing with some very real problems with some very real-world implications."
