After days of speculation, cryptic messages, and sleuthing from fans, The Vampire Diaries star Joseph Morgan has finally confirmed his appearance in the Legacies finale.

After the show's penultimate episode came out on Thursday, Morgan, who played Klaus Mikaelson, took to Instagram to officially announce the news.

"If you had the chance to say one last goodbye to the child you loved more than anything, would you take it?" he said on a live.

After taking fans through the various hints he had posted to social media, he continued: "I don't know if I've got permission to do this. I don't know if I need it, to be honest with you.

"Regardless, we're here now, so I'm going to tell you a couple of things: You are going to see Klaus again in the final-ever episode of Legacies. Just for a fleeting moment. That's it, you heard it here first."

He added another cryptic message: "This was never ever about a ship for me or for Klaus. This is about family. Family is power. This is about a father and his daughter, their relationship, what he feels he owes to her. That's what this is about. So there was a very secret, very clandestine scene recorded."

Morgan then encouraged fans to come to his Stageit show on Saturday, where he promised to talk more about Legacies.

Fans last saw Klaus in the final episodes of The Originals, where he died, but now it seems there will finally be a bittersweet reunion scene between him and his daughter, Hope (Danielle Rose Russell).

Legacies airs on The CW in the US.
