Legends of Tomorrow fans said goodbye to Matt Ryan's John Constantine at the end of season 6, but we were told pretty quickly that he would be returning to the show soon as a completely different character.

The character is Gwyn Davies, a kooky doctor who lives in the 1920s and may be the only person who can help the team escape from the time period they have crash landed in.

Even though the season will be set in Texas, that's a very Welsh name, and we're hoping that Ryan will get to siarad gymraeg a little bit.

The CW

Ahead of the launch of season 7, The CW have released a poster of the cast in their 1920s attire, with a first look at what Ryan looks like as Davies (albeit in comic art form). He's obviously the one with the beard and the glasses.

Ryan – who also worked on the (best) Assassin's Creed game Black Flag previously spoke about why Constantine was been written out of the show, stating: "When it first came about, it just felt like it was right for John to leave Legends.

"John Constantine is someone who always walks alone, even though in the comics, he becomes the leader of the Justice League Dark and he pops up in various different comics.

"Ultimately, he's a loner with his guilt and torment that walks this earth alone. There was only so much that we could ever do with him on Legends. It almost felt like we were on borrowed time at some point, because you don't want to push a character like this too far."

Still, Ryan is "very excited" to create this role for the new season, and teases that he will "cause some trouble for the Legends".

Legends of Tomorrow airs on The CW in the US. It airs on Sky Max and NOW in the UK.
