Marvel's Agents of SHIELD star Clark Gregg has addressed rumours of his character Agent Coulson in the MCU.

While the cult favourite show has been off the air for a while now, Coulson remains a factor in the MCU following a recent flashback in Loki and an appearance in Marvel's What If…? animated show.

Gregg recently confirmed that he'd read various fan theories about how Coulson could return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, then gave a coy response when asked if anything is in the works.

"I've heard those rumours, that's the comment I can make. I've heard those rumours," he told Entertainment Weekly.

He also refused to rule out Agents of SHIELD coming back by referencing it repeatedly surviving being on the bubble for cancellation at ABC.

"No show ever came back from the dead more than us. Fittingly, I would say," Gregg said, with a reference to Coulson actually coming back from the dead multiple times.

Asked where the character would be today, Gregg teased: "He's no doubt cruising around in his newly upgraded Lola. In my fantasy world, he has reunited with some people from that team and they're back at work.

"And maybe that show will be announced! No, I'm just kidding. There's no show. Let's just break the internet."

Agent Coulson made his first appearance at the dawn of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Iron Man, but has since gone on to be adapted in Marvel's comics continuity. He last appeared on the big screen in 2019's Captain Marvel.

Marvel's What If..? is currently streaming new episodes weekly on Disney+. Marvel's Agents of SHIELD is also available to stream on the service.
