DC's Legends of Tomorrow spoilers for season 6, episode 9 'This Is Gus' follow.
DC's Legends of Tomorrow has brought back a major character in its latest episode, airing a return that viewers never thought they'd see again following the events of the season 5 finale.
In Sunday night's (July 11) episode of the CW show, Zari 2.0 (Tala Ashe) traded places with Zari 1.0, who has been stuck in the totem since last season's finale when she sacrificed herself to save her brother Behrad (Shayan Sobhian).
After a goofy adventure that saw Behrad transform into a cold suit-and-tie businessman type when aliens crash on the set of his favourite sitcom, Zari realised that she didn't appreciate her brother is as much as she should have done.

The Legends saved Behrad by capturing the aliens and setting the timeline right, before finally throwing him a birthday party after everyone previously forgot about the celebration – including Zari. However, she didn't attend the party.

Instead, feeling bad for how she behaved towards her brother, Zari spoke to the ancestors and found out that as long as one version of Zari stays in the totem, it will have no effect on the timeline.
So Zari 2.0 decided to trade places with Zari 1.0 and stay in the totem herself, allowing the other Zari to return to the Waverider, reunite with Behrad and spend some time with her friends again.

Shayan Sobhian, who plays Behrad, recently spoke to TV Insider about filming with Ashe as Zari 1.0.
"It was still such a brief moment," he said. "We had a lot of it at the end of Season 5, which was awesome. Those scenes were really, really great. Then this one, in this episode, it feels that it was more about 1.0 in Nate's journey, but it was still great just to have that moment where I see her and react to her presence."
He also hinted that Zari 1.0 could be sticking around for a few episodes, adding: "Yeah. Yeah. They worked around some totem loopholes, as it were."
Legends of Tomorrow season 6 airs on The CW in the US. It has yet to announce a UK air date.
