Legacies executive producer Brett Matthews has teased that the show will connect to The Vampire Diaries and The Originals in a forthcoming "impossible" episode.
The CW series recently teed up the show's first-ever venture into space, which will air later this week in the US.

While discussing the "impossible" feat, Matthews revealed the groundbreaking episode will also touch upon "the past histories of the three franchises".

Evidently, this refers to The Vampire Diaries, The Originals and Legacies.
"It's really an episode that delves deep into the past histories of the three franchises and specifically Hope's journey through The Originals to this show," Matthews told Entertainment Weekly.
"It has ties to its past and also informs where the end of the season will go. It is one of those episodes that only Legacies allows us to do. We experiment with a lot of the genres we love deeply and sci-fi is certainly one of them, so we're finally taking it on."
As for the idea of taking the show into space, Matthews added: "We have always wanted to do a space episode. It has always been this impossible pipe dream, but we found a way to do it."

The comments follow Legacies recently making a cute Elena and Damon reference.
They also follow Josie Saltzman actress Kaylee Bryant coming out as queer in an uplifting Pride Month post. Previously, she revealed the one regret she has about the show's musical episode.
