Tiger King fever continues as it has been confirmed that a scripted show starring Saturday Night Live's Kate McKinnon as big cat enthusiast Carole Baskin will be going ahead.

NBCUniversal has announced that the drama, provisionally titled Joe Exotic, will air as an eight-episode limited series on NBC, USA Network and streaming service Peacock, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

The show is based on the Wondery podcast Joe Exotic: Tiger King, which reveals many more details about Joe Exotic and Carole Baskin and their personal lives.

We'll see a dramatic interpretation of everything that happened when Carole discovered that her fellow exotic animal lover Joe was breeding his big cats and using them for profit, leading her to set out to shut down his venture.

With a rivalry building, Joe decided to find out some more details about her in an attempt to "expose what he sees as her hypocrisy".

As we know from Netflix's Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness documentary series, Joe and Carole's rivalry has caused a huge amount of drama and tension, so Joe Exotic should be full of big twists and turns.

McKinnon, who has starred in films including the 2016 remake of Ghostbusters, Bombshell and Yesterday, has been attached to the project for several months and even has the seal of approval from Baskin herself, who has called her "a wonderful actress".

The role of Joe Exotic has not been cast but the man himself, whose real name is Joseph Allen Maldonado-Passage, has announced that he would like "Brad Pitt or David Spade" to play him.

Meanwhile, a separate series based on Exotic's life has cast actor Nicolas Cage as the man himself, with no news on who will play Baskin yet.

Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness is streaming on Netflix now.
