Marvel's Agents of SHIELD has confirmed a fan theory focused on Captain America and the super soldier serum.

Season seven of the ABC show began last week, and saw Freddy Malick given a vial of mysterious green substance.

It immediately sparked theories from fans that the substance was used to create the super soldier serum that gave Captain America his powers, especially as Freddy will have future links to HYDRA.

Well, the latest episode last night (June 3) confirmed the theory, as Jemma Simmons analysed a piece of the substance left on Freddy's contact.

She deduced that it would go on to be "synthesised by a German scientist named Abraham Erskine, and first used by a man named Johann Schmidt".

Agents of SHIELD is currently in its final season, though Daisy/Quake/Skye actress Chloe Bennet has assured fans that the ending won't be "a Game of Thrones situation" where the ball is dropped.

"I think fans will be very satisfied with the way that the show ends," she said. "There are a lot of endings. There are a lot of people on the show, and there are a lot of ways that it could go.

"This show has been kept alive by our fans. I think it's safe to say that everyone was constantly thinking about how to make it more enjoyable, especially for the people who've been watching the show since season one."

Agents of SHIELD season seven continues on Wednesday, June 10 on ABC in the US. A UK release date for season seven has yet to be confirmed.
