Westworld spoilers below.

Westworld star Ed Harris is not at all thrilled about the story arc for his character The Man in Black in season three.

The most recent episodes have seen Harris facing off with multiple versions of his character, with the true answer as to whether he is a robotic Host remaining unknown as of yet.

In a recent interview with Vulture, Harris complained that the third season was pulling The Man in Black too far away from the villainy he originally signed up to play, since viewers were made to sympathise with him.

"I mean, I signed on to play the Man in Black," he argued. "I didn't sign on to play the Man in White. So it wasn't the most joyous season for me, I gotta say."

Harris confessed that playing The Man in Black is "hard to feel like something [he's] really enjoying doing" at this point because even he hasn't been told about the character's true origins.

"They pretty much leave [the backstory] up in the air. Being a person who enjoys doing theatre and making it new and fresh every night, I'd just as soon know the full arc of my character. But, unfortunately, I do not," he added.

This season has expanded the mythology of Westworld exponentially, including posing whether Game of Thrones is actually set within the park and raising many new questions about which characters are actually Hosts.

There will be more time to explore all of these new theories because HBO confirmed earlier this week that Westworld will return for a fourth season.

Westworld airs on HBO in the US, and on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK.
