Hilary Duff has given us an update on that long-awaited Lizzie McGuire reboot, revealing that it's in "very new stages" at the moment.

The actress rose to fame in the titular role on the show, which ran between 2001 and 2004 and followed the life of a 13 year-old girl and her animated alter ego.

There has been a lot of speculation about a potential revival surfacing in recent years.

Duff first spoke about bringing the character back in 2017, and has now admitted that she is "excited" by the prospect – even though she said in the past that she didn't miss playing the character.

"It’s in very new stages," she told Fox News. "There’s been a lot of creative talk. I think the timing hasn’t been right. I'm excited at the prospect of it.

"[Lizzie McGuire] was important to so many people, including me. If she can be important again to girls in this stage of their lives, I think that would be amazing."

"There's been some conversations," she said. "It's definitely not a go. I don't want to get everyone wild talking about it."

Teasing where McGuire would be today, Duff added: "There's been lots of conversations about that. I don't think she's a mom yet, but she might be getting there soon."
