The game is most definitely on, as the BBC has released its first official picture from Sherlock series four.

Although the new look doesn't give away much, Benedict Cumberbatch seems very in the zone as the genius detective, with a trusty hound by his side.

The new three-part series follows on from January 2016 special 'The Abominable Bride'.

Pictures have emerged from the set over the past few months, with Cumberbatch sporting a rather rugged look in some scenes.

Toby Jones, James Holmes and Sacha Dhawan are among the new cast additions, with Mark Gatiss, Amanda Abbington and Louise Brealey all expected to return.

Later this month, the Sherlock team will be heading to San Diego Comic-Con, though Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman will be absent.
