It's only two weeks into its latest series, but The Island with Bear Grylls has already sparked fierce debate online – and seen one of its contestants quit.

A relaxing break on a tropical island, this ain't.

In tonight's (April 9) episode of The Island, viewers saw stay-at-home dad Erance return home after enduring a difficult 11 days, calling the experiment "hell on earth".

"I miss my family," he told cameras before insisting that he be allowed to leave the island for good. "I can't do no more. I don't want to do no more, and I've failed," he said.

Hey, you've done better than we could, Erance!

Unfortunately, Erance's departure wasn't the most shocking moment of the episode this evening, as it didn't take long for accusations of bullying to emerge.

After failing to find a termite mount before the camp's fire went out, and a potentially misjudged offer of Lilt, viewers picked up on medical lecturer James' growing distance from the group.

"Really angry that James is being bullied for being a nice person," one viewer said, while another slammed James' fellow islanders' behaviour as "disgusting".

"The way they've outcasted James already is disgusting!! NOBOBY managed to bring anything back other than him," they wrote.

The Island with Bear Grylls has already raised eyebrows with its fifth series following the decision to split contestants into economic class.

Dropped on opposite ends of the island, one half of the team earn an average of £100,000 per year, while the others earn below the average annual wage in the UK.

Despite its unusual premise, fans of the show have expressed their disappointment with the latest theme, complaining that The Island was unnecessarily 'constructing conflict'.

The Island with Bear Grylls continues next Monday (April 16) on Channel 4 at 9pm.
