The Jump's 2017 trailer has landed with a great big thud in the snow.

It all starts off wonderfully gracefully, with Spencer Matthews and co soaring the sky in their fetching lycra outfits, set to Westlife's 'Flying Without Wings', before it all goes wrong.

Spencer and his fellow Jump hopefuls Louis Smith, Vogue Williams, Josie Gibson, Jason Robinson and Lydia Bright are sent crashing into the snow by an owl – voiced by actor Peter Serafinowicz.

The trailer's getting its first TV airing at around 7pm tonight, just beefore the Channel 4 News.

Last year's series of The Jump was plagued by serious injuries forcing many contestants to pull out of the competition.

Actress Tina Hobley was left unable to perform simple tasks after a horrific fall, Olympic gymnast Beth Tweddle fractured two vertebrae in her neck, and fellow Olympian Rebecca Adlington dislocated her shoulder.

Quite understandably – The Jump undertook a safety review last year, with Channel 4 noting that while "all winter sports carry some element of risk", it wanted to "further reduce the prospect of accident".

Where several contestants have voiced amazement that the show has been allowed to return, commentator Eddie 'the Eagle' Edwards has been dropped – he'd previously voiced his own concerns about the show.

But Channel 4 denied suggestions he'd been axed because of his comments, and instead put his exit down to an "editorial decision".

The Jump will return to Channel 4 for its fourth series in February.
