Spencer Matthews has been crowned the winner of The Jump 2017, in a surprise victory over Louis Smith.

The Made in Chelsea star faced off against gymnast Smith, rugby player Jason Robinson and model Amy Willerton in the final jump-off.

Robinson's effort fell short of Smith's mighty 18.05 metre jump, knocking him out of the race early on.

And Willerton crashed out in more dramatic style after she fell off her skis before the final line, despite delivering a promising-looking jump.

A disappointed Willerton said "that's the first time I've ever fallen but I gave it my all. I am the winning girl!"

When it came to Matthews's turn, he ended up sailing through the air in professional skier style, with the blades forming that all-important V shape.

He was clearly happy with his effort, telling presenter Davina McCall that how pleased at how it went.

Even his rival Smith was obviously impressed, saying "I think he's beaten me".

And the confirmation soon came that Matthews had jumped an impressive 18.98 metres, beating the record for longest jump ever recorded on the show previously set by former EastEnders actor Sid Owen.

After being announced as the victor, an overwhelmed Matthews said he felt "amazing".

"I'm so happy!" he told McCall, before being promptly sprayed with Champagne by his fellow competitors.

Viewers seemed just as keen to celebrate his victory on Twitter:

Congratulations Spencer – long may you reign over the ski slopes of Austria.
